With over 50 years of horse experience, Tom not only has the knowledge but the experience to deal with a variety of training situations and horse personalities. Tom has studied the techniques of John Lyons, one of the most trusted horsemen and uses similar techniques in his training process. Tom recently obtained his accreditation in the Resistance Free® methods of training and is now combining the two to achieve an even greater understanding of the communication network between horse and rider.

Finesse, not force, is the key; no harsh equipment or tactics are used or allowed. Remember that, “Where knowledge ends, abuse begins!” Most horses are willing to do what you ask of them if they know what you are asking. Our goal is to develop  balanced, willing horses that have a good foundation on which to build.

It generally takes longer to retrain a horse that has had bad experiences in the training process than to train it correctly the first time. I have had numerous (do overs) from other trainers that use force and brutality as their training method. Spend the time to do your research and find the right trainer for your pet.

Remember, The bitterness of a poor job will be remembered long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten. If you are just looking for the lowest price , it would be wise to save enough to be able to get what you are paying for at a later time.

How do you find a good horse trainer? I have listed a few things to look out for.

  • Do they have spurs that jingle when they walk? ouch!!!
  • Do they have harsh long shank bits in their collection? ouch!!!
  • Ask to watch a training session. If they refuse to let you watch-look out.
  • Are they over promissing a result. If they say the horse will be doing advanced moves such as  sliding stops, spins, flying lead changes, etc. you should walk away. That is work that takes much longer than 90 days to teach correctly. Remember, in the training process, "slow is fast". You can not go from A to Z and get a long lasting result.

2009 Training cost:

$500.00 per month plus boarding fee of $375.00 for a total of $875.00 per month. A totally untrained horse will require a minimum of 90 days of training.

Tune-ups will be determind by the behavioral problems the horse has developed and what it will take to safely rehabilitate the horse.
